Steel City Hacks: Teach Computer Science and Join Our Organization!
Hey everyone!
I'm so excited to announce that today is the final day of our hackathon! Please submit all of your projects by 11:59 PM EST!
This hackathon is held by Steel City Codes, a nonprofit led entirely by high schoolers that organizes free computer science classes for elementary/middle school students across the United States and Canada. Our mission is to address systemic inequalities in STEM education by providing underserved communities with free computer science classes. These classes are taught entirely by dedicated high schoolers with computer science knowledge just like you! We are going to hold a virtual nationwide summer camp, taught by high-schoolers, and we would love to have you volunteer with us so you can use your computer science expertise to teach and support the next generation of coders.
Volunteering will also allow you to join our organization as an organizer in the fall. As an organizer, you'll be given resources to organize your own local computer science class by conducting outreach to elementary/middle school students who would like to attend your class, which we call a chapter, and also conducting outreach to fellow high-school students to teach computer science classes! Organizing and starting your own local chapter would have a massive impact on your local community and inspire dozens/hundreds of young programmers in your area. Organizing your own chapter also looks amazing on applications because of the wonderful impact you have on your community.
If you're interested, please sign up here to teach for our nationwide (or possibly global) summer camp! https://forms.gle/tK2yV6py5KbeRagk8
